Report: Skip Bayless Blamed FS1 over Shannon Sharpe Feud, Rejected 'Farewell' Show
It sounds like the departure of longtime analyst Skip Bayless from FS1 was more contentious than it initially appeared.
According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Bayless "blamed higher-up execs for not mediating his feud with Shannon Sharpe" and turned down the opportunity to do a "farewell" show before his tenure came to an end.
Bayless and Sharpe had been partners since 2016 on Skip & Shannon: Undisputed before the Pro Football Hall of Famer departed in 2023. Sharpe joined the rival ESPN as one of the lead analysts of First Take alongside Stephen A. Smith, and their partnership has been successful so far.

McCarthy illustrated how instrumental Sharpe's departure was in the ultimate demise of Bayless' tenure with FS1.
"The end of the Bayless vs. Sharpe feud also shows how looks can be deceiving. When Sharpe was pushed out of FS1 in 2023, Bayless appeared to be the winner. After all, the executives had sided with him, not Sharpe. Instead, that decision ended up spelling the end of Bayless's FS1 run," McCarthy stated. "Without Sharpe across the debate desk, Undisputed's audience fell apart, dropping to 50,000 viewers for some episodes, compared to more than 400,000 for First Take. Bayless, and his show, never recovered."
Rather than address his departure on-air, Bayless wrote in a tweet posted after Friday's episode of Undisputed: "Today was my last show on Undisputed. I'm leaving FS1. I've been planning to pursue other opportunities for several months. I had a great 8-year run with a lot of great people at FOX, but now I'm excited for what's coming up. Stay tuned." FS1 responded with a statement thanking him for his "outstanding contributions" to the network.
While things appeared on the surface to be cordial, McCarthy reported that the reason Bayless chose not to do a formal farewell was because "the proud Bayless was so disappointed at being pushed out of the network he helped build that he passed on the chance to address his departure."
Bayless has yet to announce his next move, but the sports broadcasting legend likely will have multiple opportunities to choose from.
