Brandon Aiyuk Trade Rumors: Patriots Willing to Give 49ers Star a Top-5 WR Contract
Amid speculation that the San Francisco 49ers are making star wideout Brandon Aiyuk available for a trade, the New England Patriots are reportedly prepared to make him their next franchise receiver.
During an appearance on SportsCenter on Tuesday, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that the Patriots are "willing to make Aiyuk one of the top five highest-paid receivers in average per year."
Reiss noted that the Patriots' aggressive philosophy goes back to new executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf declaring in February that he planned to "weaponize the offense." Earlier this offseason, New England chased star receiver Calvin Ridley and was willing to "spend big" for him, but he chose to sign with the Tennessee Titans.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Despite the rumors that the Patriots are going after Ridley, the team is remaining mum on its pursuit. While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, first-year head coach Jerod Mayo said, "I know what all you guys want to know. One thing I learned from Bill [Belichick]: I don't talk about players on other teams."
Aiyuk made it clear that he wants a raise from his $14.1 million fifth-year option for the 2024 season. He has been in attendance at training camp but has yet to participate in practice.
The 26-year-old is coming off a stellar 2023 season in which he recorded a career-high 1,342 receiving yards on 75 catches with seven touchdowns on his way to earning second-team All-Pro honors.
If New England is able to acquire Aiyuk, he would be a game-changing addition for a franchise that is entering a new era under Mayo and rookie quarterback Drake Maye, the No. 3 pick in this year's draft.
