Olympic 2024 Medal Count: Final Tally, Winners from Day 11 Early Events

Joe TanseyAug 6, 2024

The gold medal race between China and United States will likely go down to the final day of the 2024 Summer Olympics.

China earned its 22nd gold medal in diving on Tuesday morning to move back in front of the United States.

The United States holds a 24-medal lead over China in the overall medal table and that lead will likely grow throughout as the second week of the Paris Games goes on.

There were only two medal events on Tuesday morning because the sailing events are in a delay.

A handful of gold medal events are scheduled for Tuesday's afternoon schedule, which is highlighted by five medal events in athletics.

China moved back in front of the United States in the gold medal table with a successful run in diving on Tuesday morning.

Quan Hongchan took the gold in the women's 10-meter platform event. China also took the silver through Chen Yuxi.

Diving has been one of the most important sports to China's quest for the most golds in Paris. The Asian nation has five of its 22 golds in diving. That is tied with shooting for the most first-place finishes in a single sport by China.

The United States holds a massive gap in the overall medal table. The Americans have 79 medals compared to China's 55.

For now, Team USA is in a close fight with China for most golds, but the balance of power should shift over the next few days as Noah Lyles and others go for gold in athletics finals.
