5-Star Safety Trey McNutt Commits to Oregon over Ohio State, USC, Florida, More
Oregon has landed a huge defensive recruit out of the Class of 2025.
Per On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett, 5-star safety Trey McNutt has committed to the Ducks. McNutt picked Oregon over Texas A&M, Ohio State, USC and other top programs.
McNutt is considered to be the No. 19 player nationally, the No. 1 safety and the No. 2 player out of the state of Ohio by 247Sports Composite.
For McNutt, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning played a big role in his decision to commit to the Ducks over several other top programs.
"It's been a long journey," McNutt said, per 247Sports' Allen Trieu. "With my recruitment, I just chose what I think is the best fit for me. I think that Coach Lanning and the rest of the Oregon staff is going to develop and take care of me."
McNutt has tremendous speed, running a 10.82 in the 100-meter as a sophomore, according Trieu. That speed should help him excel at the collegiate level when he arrives at Oregon in the fall of 2025.
McNutt's commitment adds to a loaded Class of 2025 for the Ducks, as Oregon has another 5-star, wide receiver Dakorien Moore, along with 12 other 4-stars. According to 247Sports, the Ducks have the No. 6 overall recruiting class for 2025.
