Wemby, France Lose to Germany: Group Results Before 2024 Olympic Basketball Bracket
Dennis Schroder and Germany gave everyone in the 2024 Summer Olympics men's basketball tournament a reminder of what they are capable of on Friday.
The reigning FIBA world champion topped Group B with an emphatic 85-71 victory over Victor Wembanyama and France.
The final score was not indicative of just how much of a blowout the game was. Germany held a lead over 20 points for a long stretch of the contest.
Germany confirmed its spot among the group winners alongside Canada and likely the United States.
Canada moved to 3-0 by way of a three-point win over a Spain team that needed a win to stay alive in the tournament.
The United States finishes group play on Saturday. Team USA needs a win of five or more points over Puerto Rico to be the top-rated group winner.

Germany did not have to deliver many statement wins in Paris because of its FIBA World Championship triumph last summer, but Friday's win was a good reminder of what it is capable of.
Dennis Schroder and Franz Wagner each scored 26 points in the 14-point victory over France.
France had no answer for Germany's two-man game, and outside of a run in the middle of the second half, it could not keep pace with the world champion.
Victor Wembanyama only managed 14 points and 12 rebounds and was quiet during France's second half run.
The win put Germany through as the Group B winner. It will likely be the No. 2 seed in the knockout round behind the United States. Team USA needs to make up four points on point differential and is a heavy favorite to beat Puerto Rico on Saturday.
France is currently the best second-place team in the tournament, but it should be the second-best second-place finisher because Serbia is expected to beat South Sudan and already owns a superior point differential.
Brazil clinched a spot in the final eight by way of its win over Japan earlier on Friday. Bruno Caboclo had 33 points and 17 rebounds in the 102-84 victory.
Every point mattered for Brazil because it is one point ahead of Greece on point differential among the third-place teams. Brazil can finish no worse than the second third-place team because of its edge over Greece.

Canada confirmed its place atop Group A with a close win over Spain.
The Canadians led for a majority of the contest, but faced a late threat from a desperate Spanish team that needed a victory to vault Australia and Greece in the standings.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander turned in a 20-point performance and Jamal Murray chipped in six assists in Canada's third win of the tournament.
Australia lost to Greece, but it remained in second place on point differential.
The Aussies lost by six points, but remained in front of the Greeks by four points in the Group A standings to clinch second place.
The slender win by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. put Greece in danger of not making the final eight.
Greece needs South Sudan to lose by three or more points to Serbia on Saturday to be the eighth and final team into the knockout round.
Greece will play Germany in the quarterfinals if it advances.
