Missouri 14, Nebraska 3
The Midwest Region opened play Friday and Missouri's offensive output has the team looking like a contender to win the bid.
Missouri scored in five of six innings and tallied 14 hits in the lopsided victory. Max Woodmansee and Georges Hines led the team with three hits each, while nine other batters collected RBIs in the effort.
Woodmansee captured the victory on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings and recording eight strikeouts while surrendering just two hits. He was removed after 51 pitches, which will make him eligible for Monday's matchup.
Missouri now advances to the semifinals of the winner's bracket and will face the winner of Iowa and Kansas. Nebraska will need to stave off elimination in its first loser's bracket game, which will come against the loser of Iowa-Kansas.
Georgia 8, South Carolina 6
After losing their respective opening games, Georgia and South Carolina were up against the wall in the loser's bracket. In a back-and-forth game, Georgia was able to stay alive and knock off South Carolina 8-6.
Georgia took a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but three runs in the top of the third gave South Carolina a major boost.
Georgia knew it needed to respond and it scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to re-take the lead. South Carolina would cut the deficit to one in the top of the fourth, but an insurance run in the bottom of the inning gave Georgia all it needed to claim victory.
Jake Sams had two hits and three RBIs in the winning effort and added two crucial shutout innings in relief. Georgia will now face the loser of the winner's bracket game between Virginia and Tennessee.
Texas West 5, New Mexico 1
Texas West took another step toward a Williamsport berth on Saturday, notching a 5-1 victory over New Mexico.
The win came one day after Texas West defeated Arkansas in the opening round, while New Mexico was playing in its first matchup of the tournament. The first few innings were a pitcher's duel, with Reid Alcaraz and Caden Guffey shutting down the opposition in their respective starts.
Texas West took the first lead in the game in the top of the fourth, but New Mexico matched in the bottom of the inning. However, Texas West scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, and New Mexico's offense was unable to keep up.
Texas West saw six batters manage a hit and limited New Mexico to just four hits. It now advances to the finals of the winner's bracket, while New Mexico will head to the semifinals of the loser's bracket.
