Olympic 2024 Medal Count: Final Tally, Winners from Day 7 Early Events

Joe TanseyAug 2, 2024

The United States eclipsed the 40-medal mark at the 2024 Summer Olympics on Friday morning.

Team USA earned two silver and two bronze medals in equestrian, shooting, archery and rowing.

None of those medals, though, were golds. More first-place finishes are expected to come with the start of track and field this weekend, but for now, the Americans sit four golds behind China.

China extended its lead atop the gold medal table to four with its first-place finishes on Friday morning.

The United States is still on top of the overall medal table with 41 going into the afternoon events.

Team USA earned four medals across four different spots on Friday morning.

The silver medals came from the equestrian team jumping event and from Sagen Maddalena in the women's 50-meter three position shooting event.

Maddalena's score was only 1.4 points off the gold medal earned by Switzerland's Chiara Leone, who set an Olympics record with a score of 464.4.

The other three medals were earned from team events. The other silver came from the equestrian team jumping event.

The pair of bronze medals came in the mixed team archery and men's sailing skiff race.

Brady Ellison picked up his fourth overall Olympic medal with his bronze alongside Casey Kaufhold in the archery mixed team event.

The four medals pushed Team USA over the 40-medal mark in Paris. They lead France by 12 in the overall medal table.

China moved four golds ahead of Team USA in the gold medal table with a few victories on Friday.

China won golds in the badminton mixed doubles and the men's synchronized three-meter diving event.

The badminton team put on one of the more dominant winning performances on Friday morning, as it beat South Korea in straight sets and outscored its opponent 42-19. Sets are played to 21 in badminton.

Thirteen of China's 27 medals in Paris have been golds. It has four each in shooting and diving and one from five other sports.

The gold-medal lead is not expected to last until the end of the Paris Games, though, since the Americans are expected to bring home plenty of golds in track and field, two in basketball and potentially a few more in the final days of swimming.
