Olympic 2024 Medal Count: Final Tally, Winners from Day 6 Early Events

The United States added to its gold medal haul at the 2024 Summer Olympics on Thursday morning.

The four-man rowing team of Nick Mead, Justin Best, Michael Grady and Liam Corrigan ended a 64-year gold-medal drought in men's rowing four-man event for Team USA.

The Americans are still lagging behind the gold-medal table, but they are clear at the top of the overall medal table.

Team USA heads into Thursday afternoon with 31 total medals, five more than France in second place.

China is the only nation with a double-digit gold-medal tally at the moment. China moved its gold total from nine to 11 with a pair of first-place finishes on Thursday.

USA Men's Rowing Wins First Four Man Gold Since 1960

The USA four-man rowing team won the country's first gold in the event since 1960.

Team USA completed the rowing course in 5:49.03 to earn the sixth American gold of the Paris Games.

"Crossing that finish line, I was just bawling my eyes out. Seeing the flag being raised, I love these guys, I love the United States of America, and I wouldn't want to do it with another group," American rower Justin Best said of the victory. (h/t ESPN).

The American quartet got out in front early in the race and held off the two other medaling teams New Zealand and Great Britain.

Great Britain, the 2023 gold medalist at the World Championships, could not recover from a slow start and finished three whole seconds behind the USA quartet.

Thursday's medal marked the first time the United States finished on the Olympic podium in the event since a bronze medal in 2012.

It was the first overall rowing medal for the Americans at the Paris Games. Team USA has now earned medals in 11 different sports.
