Olympic Triathlon 2024: Men's Individual Medal Winners, Times and Results

Great Britain's Alex Yee won gold in a thrilling finish in the men's triathlon at the 2024 Olympics on Wednesday.

Yee stormed back on the final lap of the 6.2-mile run to pass Hayden Wilde of New Zealand. He crossed the finish line in 1:43:33, six seconds ahead of Wilde to capture his third career Olympic medal.

The triathlon consists of a 1.5-kilometer (0.93-mile) swim, 40-kilometer (25-mile) cycle and 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) run.

France's Léo Bergère finished third to take home the bronze in his second Olympic appearance.

Yee trailed Wilde by 14 seconds with just over one mile remaining in the relay part of the event. He turned on the jets down the final stretch to move into the top position and grew his lead to win by six seconds.

The moment came amid uncertainty the triathlon would even be able to take place today. It was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but organizers announced it was being postponed due to unsafe water conditions in the Seine River.

Water quality tests determined the Seine was okay for competition on Wednesday.

Italy's Alessio Crociani was in first place after the first stage, finishing the 1500-meter swim in 20:10. Yee and Wilde were outside of the top 15 going into the biking portion of the race.

Wilde was sitting in 18th place with a time of 1:13:49 coming out of the bike race. Yee had moved all the way up to fourth, with Bergère not far behind in seventh place.

It only took about 1.5 miles into the relay part of the race for Wilde to climb into first place. He was still 12 seconds clear of Yee with 1.05 kilometers left to go before Yee turned on the jets.

The win comes three years after Yee won silver in the triathlon at the 2020 Olympics. He did win gold in the mixed relay at the Tokyo Games. This marks the third time in the past four Olympics that Great Britain has won the men's triathlon. Alistair Brownlee took home gold in 2012 and 2016.
