DJ Moore, Bears Agree to New 4-Year, $110M Contract; Largest in Franchise History

Timothy RappJul 31, 2024

The Chicago Bears have reportedly agreed to a four-year, $110 million extension for star wideout DJ Moore, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The deal—which is the largest in team history—will include $82.6 million in guaranteed money and keep the 27-year-old wideout under contract through the 2029 season.

The Bears have had quite the offseason, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Alongside drafting quarterback Caleb Williams and wideout Rome Odunze in the first round, they also traded for wideout Keenan Allen and signed running back D'Andre Swift in free agency. And now Moore is under contract for the long term.

Suffice to say, this is a potentially explosive bunch, depending on how quickly Williams adjusts to the NFL level.

As for Moore, he's coming off an epic season that saw him register 96 catches for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns.

According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, his yards were the "fourth most by a Bears player in franchise history, trailing only Brandon Marshall (2012), Alshon Jeffery (2013) and Marcus Robinson (1999). Moore accounted for 39.9 percent of the Bears' receiving yards last season, the highest percentage for any player for a team in 2023."

Expectations are high for these Bears, and Moore is going to have to share some of the targets that headed his way previously. But the Chicago offense has far more upside in the process.

As for Moore's new deal, the market for wide receivers continues to be significant. The $27.5 million average annual salary Moore will have on his extension ranks seventh in the NFL among wideouts, trailing Justin Jefferson ($35 million), A.J. Brown ($32 million), Amon-Ra St. Brown ($30 million), Tyreek Hill ($30 million), Jaylen Waddle ($28.2 million) and Davante Adams ($28 million).

Jefferson, Brown, St. Brown, Waddle and Moore also signed their deals this offseason, and players like CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase are expected to further reset the market when they sign extensions.
