The United States cruised to a gold medal in the gymnastics women's team final on Tuesday in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Sunisa Lee combined to earn a 171.296 overall score, putting Team USA well ahead of runner-up Italy.

Biles became the most decorated American gymnast in history. She now has five goals along with one silver and two bronzes.

Women's Team All-Around Medal Results

Gold: United States, 171.296

Silver: Italy, 165.494

Bronze: Brazil, 164.497

In the first of four rotations, the United States opened with the vault. Biles' 14.900 was the team's highest score, and the trio of she Carey and Chiles set the tone for the rest of the competition.

From there, it was on to the uneven bars, where Lee took center stage. She earned a 14.566 score with her routine.

The U.S. continued rolling on the balance beam in the third rotation, which saw Biles, Lee and Chiles pad the Americans' overall tally.

The floor exercise was the final rotation for Team USA. A gold medal was all but academic because the floor is collectively the strongest of the four programs for the United States, and its three representatives lived up to the hype.

Lee and Chiles posted scores of 13.533 and 13.966 before Biles brought things to a close. The 27-year-old was her typically brilliant self to add the finishing touches on the win.

Team USA had the highest individual score in each discipline, delivering a dominant performance from start to finish. To provide some more context with the 5.802-point gap between the United States and Italy, the Italians were 6.031 points ahead of Japan, who finished last in the final.

This is just the fourth gold medal for the United States in Paris, though its 22 overall medals lead the way.

Plenty of gold remains up for grabs in artistic gymnastics. The men's all-around final will be decided Wednesday with the women's all-around final to follow Thursday.

Biles' calf injury figures to be an ongoing storyline, though it didn't appear to limit her much Tuesday. She has entered into the all-around final and qualified for three of the four individual competitions, but whether she's 100 percent for those events may be a different story.
