Tyler ConwayJul 29, 2024

When it comes to safeties in Madden 25, there is Jessie Bates III and then there is everyone else.

The Atlanta Falcons star received a 97 overall rating from EA Sports, putting him three points ahead of any other player at the safety spot. Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. comes in with the second-highest rating at 94 overall.

Here is a look at how the entire top 10 played out:

  1. Jessie Bates III, Atlanta Falcons (97 OVR)
  2. Antoine Winfield Jr., Tampa Bay Buccaneers  (94 OVR)
  3. Minkah Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh Steelers (93 OVR)
  4. Derwin James Jr., Los Angeles Chargers (91 OVR)
  5. Tyrann Mathieu, New Orleans Saints (91 OVR)
  6. Budda Baker, Arizona Cardinals (90 OVR)
  7. Kevin Byard III, Chicago Bears (89 OVR)
  8. Kyle Hamilton, Baltimore Ravens (89 OVR)
  9. Talanoa Hufanga, San Francisco 49ers (88 OVR)
  10. Jevon Holland, Miami Dolphins (88 OVR)

With only six players rated 90 overall or better, safety is among the most top-heavy positions in the NFL—particularly considering this list includes all free and strong safeties.

Bates earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2023, recording 132 total tackles, six interceptions and three forced fumbles as the highlight of a middling Falcons defense. His departure from the Cincinnati Bengals appeared to unlock a new individual heights, but it remains to be seen if Bates will perform as well in a new defensive system.

Winfield actually beat out Bates for first-team All-Pro honors last season after setting a career high with 122 tackles, six forced fumbles and three interceptions. Despite the All-Pro selection, Winfield was not selected to the Pro Bowl, which highlights the disparity of evaluation at the safety position.

If there is any player who could have the biggest issue with is rating, it's Kyle Hamilton, who comes in at a surprising 88 overall. Hamilton has been a star since his arrival in the 2022 NFL draft, and he was both a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro selection. The Notre Dame product is a bastion of versatility, moving all over the field in the Ravens defense depending on the look.
