NFL Rumors: Taylor Decker, Lions Agree to 3-Year, $60M Contract amid Training Camp

Tyler ConwayJul 29, 2024

The Detroit Lions and offensive tackle Taylor Decker agreed to a three-year, $60 million contract extension Monday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal, though there is no word on a guarantee total. Decker was heading into the final year of his contract.

Decker, who turns 31 next month, has been with the Lions since being taken in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. He's been a solid fixture on the offensive line ever since, never quite reaching stardom but providing a steady presence at the left tackle spot.

The Lions have focused on retaining top talent throughout the offseason. They signed quarterback Jared Goff (four years, $212 million), wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown (four years, $120 million) and right tackle Penei Sewell (four years, $112 million) to massive contracts already before focusing on Decker.

Detroit enters the 2024 season considered among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. The Lions reached their first NFC Championship Game since 1991 last season, coming within three points of topping the San Francisco 49ers.

Not much should change for the Lions in 2024, aside from a little stiffer competition in the NFC North. The Green Bay Packers were a surprise playoff team last season and remain a rising potential juggernaut filled with talented young players. The Chicago Bears selected Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in April's draft and spent the offseason surrounding him with elite skill-position talent.

Having Decker protecting Goff's blind side in 2024 and moving forward will be paramount to the Lions holding off their competition.
