Jazz Chisholm Jr. to Wear No. 13 Yankees Jersey After Trade; Wore No. 2 for Marlins

Andrew PetersJul 28, 2024

Jazz Chisholm Jr. will have a new number as he suits up for the New York Yankees.

Chisholm, who was traded to New York from the Miami Marlins in return for prospects this week, will rock the No. 13 jersey for the Yankees, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. The change in number for Chisholm is likely due to his signature No. 2 being retired by the Yankees, as the legendary Derek Jeter wore the No. 2 jersey.

With new threads and a new number, Chisholm will look to find success early on in New York.

In 101 games with the Marlins, Chisholm collected 13 home runs, 50 RBI and had a .249 batting average. He's on pace to pick up career highs in home runs and RBI and should achieve those numbers with ease if his production continues with the Yankees.

Chisholm joins a potent offense highlighted by Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, though the lineup has struggled recently, especially with Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list with a hamstring injury.

Even after losing five of their first eight games to start the second half of the season, the Yankees still sit just 1.5 games back from the top of the AL East at 61-45. With a new bat in the lineup, they'll look to finish the back stretch of the seasons strong.
