Barmore's agent, Nicole Lynn, also praised New England trainer Jim Whalen for his care of the veteran over the last several days.
Additionally, Barmore thanked everyone for the support on his Instagram story, writing that he'll "be back soon."
This news comes just months after Barmore signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension with the Patriots.
Barmore was a second-round pick for the Patriots in 2021 and has emerged as a leader on the defense. He registered 64 tackles, 16 quarterback hits and 8.5 sacks in 17 games in 2023 despite making just six starts.
He has been expected to be an anchor for the Patriots defense as the team looks to take strides forward in 2024. New England went 4-13 and missed the postseason for the third time in the last four seasons.
Despite the struggles in the win column, the defense ranked in the top 10 in the NFL and the unit will be important as the team hopes to improve.
It's a new regime in New England as the franchise parted ways with former head coach Bill Belichick and hired Jerod Mayo to take over the reigns. Barmore was certainly a piece that Mayo was hoping could help ease the transition. Instead, the Patriots will hope he can heal quickly and get back to the gridiron.
