MLB Rumors: Jesse Winker Traded to Mets from Nationals amid Michael Conforto Buzz

The New York Mets have added a solid hitter to the lineup.

Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Washington Nationals are trading Jesse Winker to the Mets. Passan noted that the trade is currently in the medical phase, but the hope is that it will be completed soon. Washington's return for WInker is also not yet known.

The addition of Winker is the biggest move New York has made ahead of the trade deadline, but the Mets could look to bolster their roster further in the coming days.

Winker, who the Nationals signed to a one-year, $2 million deal ahead of this season, is having one of the best seasons of his career thus far. The 30-year-old has 11 home runs, 44 RBI and a .253 batting average through 100 games.

Winker has been a solid play for most of his eight-year career, but injuries have slowed him down and held him back from reaching his full potential. He had the chance to show his healthiest self in 2021, when he had 24 homers, 71 RBI and a .305 batting average on his way to an All-Star appearance.

Winker has dealt with a few ailments this season, but has been healthy for the most part and the Mets hope things will stay that way.

The addition of Winker comes amid reports of another potential trade for the Mets. Per the New York Post's Mike Puma, New York has been in talks with the San Francisco Giants about outfielder Michael Conforto.

Whether the trade for Winker fulfills the Mets' desire to trade for Conforto is unclear, but for now, New York has added at least one solid outfielder to its roster.
