Similar to the men's singles draw, rain restricted play on the women's side.

There were only four completed matches in total.

No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek narrwowly defeated Irina-Camelia Begu in straight sets to win her 22nd consecutive match at Roland Garros.

Elsewhere, fourth-seeded Jasmine Paolini won in straight sets, while Angelique Kerber defeated Naomi Osaka.

Kerber, a three-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1, announced prior to the tournament that the 2024 Paris Olympics would be her last event.

Despite rain hindering Saturday's play, there are still a few notable takeaways from Day 1 of the Olympics.

Iga Swiatek was on the verge of playing a third, winner-take-all set in her first-round match.

Despite surrendering a service game late in the second set, the top seed managed to break her opponent's serve.

The Pole's game was far from perfect, as she hit 11 more unforced errors (30) than winners (19), but she is still the overwhelming favorite to win the gold medal in the women's draw.

Swiatek's draw will toughen, but she should be able to reach the fourth round before facing any real challenges.

Paolini defeated Ana Bogdan in straight sets.

The 28-year-old has reached back-to-back Grand Slam finals and is a serious threat to win the gold medal.

The last women's match of the day saw two former Grand Slam champions pinned against each other.

Angelique Kerber stunned Naomi Osaka in straight sets and will face Jaqueline Cristian in the second round.
