Olympic Basketball 2024: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Odds for USA and All Day 2 Games

Kristopher KnoxJul 28, 2024

The men's Olympic basketball tournament will pick back up with group play on Sunday morning, while the women's tournament will see its first games of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Headlining Sunday's action will be the United States men's team in a matchup with Nikola Jokić and a dangerous Serbian squad.

With stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum on the roster, Team USA is widely expected to win men's gold for the fifth consecutive Olympics.

However, some rough outings during exhibition play have left questions about America's ability to dominate, and Jokić does remain one of the best players on the planet—if not the best.

The U.S. women's team, which features stars like Brittney Griner, Breanna Stewart, Kelsey Plum and A'Ja Wilson, might be viewed as an even more dominant force at these Olympics. The women's team is seeking an eighth consecutive gold medal but won't play their first game until Monday (versus Japan).

Fans, however, can get an early look at their competition, as Sunday will feature two games apiece for the men and the women.

The United States' men's team will be the big draw on Sunday, as it features an unbelievable collection of star power. The team, coached by Steve Kerr, might not quite be the fabled Dream Team of 1992, but on the surface, it's close.

However, Team USA had a tough time putting away teams like South Sudan and Germany during the lead-up to the Olympics, which serves as proof that it can ill afford to take teams lightly.

"We have another level we can get to," Kerr said, per Shaun Powell of NBA.com. "It's time to lock in, that's for all of us, coaches and players, to get to that point, mentally, strategically."

Jokić, Bogdan Bogdanović and the Serbian team will provide a strong early test for the American team, likely the strongest it'll face in Group C—which consists of those two teams plus South Sudan and Puerto Rico.

South Sudan and Puerto Rico will face off in the early morning, and while neither is considered a strong overall threat, it could be a telling contest. The collection of American stars had issues against the more cohesive South Sudan team. Fans should quickly learn whether that was an aberration or if South Sudan really can be a surprise contender.

The United States is a strong favorite to win gold at -500 (bet $500 to win $100), but Serbia (+1600) is among the likely contenders. South Sudan (+25000) and Puerto Rico (30000) are both considered long shots.

Australia, Germany, France and Canada all pick up victories in men's group play on Saturday.

Spain is likely the top challenger to the American women's team that we'll see on Sunday. It's a team that doesn't want for big-stage experience—Alba Torrens is a six-time EuroLeague champion—or talent.

Megan Gustafson plays for the WNBA's Los Vegas Aces.

While the U.S. Women's team is a heavy favorite to win gold at -1800, Spain is tied with Australia (+2200) as the second-favorite. China—which has WNBA experience in Han Xu and Li Yueru—shouldn't be overlooked, though. This game should provide a good example of how stiff the competition will be for the U.S. Women's team.

Sunday's action will wrap with a women's match between Serbia and Puerto Rico. While neither squad is among the betting favorites for gold, Serbia is a heavy favorite here.
