NFL Rumors: Latest on Jordan Love's Packers Contract Talks After Tua Tagovailoa Deal

Zach BacharJul 26, 2024

Following Tua Tagovailoa's contract extension with the Miami Dolphins on Friday, Green Bay Packers signal-caller Jordan Love is still waiting for a long-term deal.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, it "appeared" that Love and the Packers would agree to an extension before Tagovailoa. However, the "structure" of the contract offer from Green Bay has been preventing both sides from reaching an agreement.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Tagovailoa received a four-year extension worth $212.4 million from Miami that included $167.1 million guaranteed.

Russini previously reported on Thursday that Love and the Packers were "making progress" in contract discussions and "heading" towards a new deal.

The 25-year-old is currently set to earn $10.5 million during the 2024 season as part of his rookie contract. He isn't participating in practice at Green Bay's training camp until he receives a new deal (h/t Matt Schneidman of The Athletic).

All signs are pointing towards Love eventually joining his fellow quarterbacks from the 2020 NFL draft as one of the highest-paid players in the league. Following Tagovailoa's extension on Friday, signal-callers from the 2020 draft represent four of the seven highest-paid players based on average annual value (via Spotrac).

Love is coming off a phenomenal starting season in 2023, leading the Packers to a 9-8 record and a divisional round playoff appearance. He completed 64.2 percent of his throws for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions.

Green Bay still has some time to work on the structure of an extension with Love, as the team's regular-season debut isn't until Sept. 6.

After Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence signed long-term deals with their respective teams during the 2024 offseason, the former Utah State standout could be the next to follow.
