NFL GM Says Travis Hunter's 'Athleticism Shines' More at WR amid 2025 Draft Buzz

As two-way standout Travis Hunter enters his second season at Colorado, one NFL general manager believes that his future in the league will be on the offensive side of the ball.

"I think he's a more natural receiver," an AFC general manager said, per ESPN's Matt Miller. "To excel at corner, he'd really have to dedicate himself to the technique and craft. At receiver, his athleticism shines."

Hunter was limited to just nine appearances in 2023 due to injuries, although he still showcased his skills at wide receiver as well as cornerback. He hauled in 57 receptions for 721 yards and five touchdowns while also racking up 30 tackles and three interceptions on defense.

It will likely be difficult for him to continue playing both positions at the NFL level, although his production in each role should still be enough to ensure that he's one of the top picks in the 2025 draft.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic revealed on July 18 that there is a "split opinion" among talent evaluators regarding Hunter's future position in the NFL.

In Bleacher Report's most recent 2025 mock draft, the 21-year-old was selected with the No. 9 overall pick.

"Hunter could be the first cornerback selected and still not technically be depending on how an organization projects him at the next level," B/R's Brent Sobleski wrote. "Some may view him as a wide receiver prospect."

While his production throughout the upcoming 2024 season will heavily factor into his role at the next level, some NFL decision-makers already seem to project Hunter becoming a full-time wide receiver down the line.
