Trent Williams Holding Out from 49ers Camp amid Desire for Contract Adjustment
Brandon Aiyuk isn't the only contract situation the San Francisco 49ers have to worry about at the start of training camp.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that left tackle Trent Williams did not report for Wednesday's practice for contract-related reasons, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Williams will be subject to $50,000 fines each day he's not in attendance.
Aiyuk has generated the majority of the headlines this offseason, and Barrows reported the wide receiver was present but did not suit up for Wednesday's practice. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday that Aiyuk was still going to be around the team during training camp even though he requested a trade and wants a new deal.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The receiver is entering the final season of his contract and is set to make $14.1 million in base salary.
While Aiyuk is an important piece in the team's offense, there may not be a more important player than Williams.
The future Hall of Famer is an 11-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro selection who anchors the offensive line every time the 49ers take the field. He leads the protection for quarterback Brock Purdy, opens up holes for running back Christian McCaffrey and has shown few signs of slowing even at age 36.
He was selected to the All-Pro First Team just last season.
Performing at that level gives any player leverage in contract talks, but Williams is not getting younger and is still playing on a deal that has him under team control through the 2026 campaign.
Garafolo put Williams' contract into perspective:
Wednesday's developments aren't shocking, though, as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported in June that there were "whispers around some in the industry that he might want a new deal eventually."
Holding out during training camp makes those whispers much louder, but San Francisco's 2024 Super Bowl chances will look much better if he and the team can come to some type of agreement that has him on the field.
