Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Nick Sirianni Relationship in 'Great Place' amid NFL Rumors

Doric SamJul 24, 2024

There was some speculation earlier this offseason that the relationship between Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni had frayed, but it sounds like that's not truly the case.

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Hurts said at the start of training camp on Wednesday that his relationship with Sirianni is in "a great place" and he has faith that he's the right person to lead the team.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported last week that "there was some disconnect" between Hurts and Sirianni because of their different personalities. She also described their relationship as "a work in progress."

The Eagles appeared to be on their way to a special season when they started the 2023 campaign with a 10-1 record, but they lost five of their last six games and were eliminated from the playoffs in the NFC Wild Card Round. Hurts went on to add that he thinks it's normal that last year's finish caused disappointment but noted that it's not enough to fracture the connection between him and his head coach.

"I think any time you have any frustration, any time you have any adversity that you have to overcome, it's supposed to test you," he said. "And I think it's a matter of being on the same page. I think if we're all on the same page, well, maybe we'd accomplish the things we would have even though we didn't. But that's a learning experience."

Sirianni echoed Hurts' sentiments and said he's looking forward to continuing to grow along with the star signal-caller.

"The only thing you can judge your relationships on is your personal interactions with people, not any report that comes out," Sirianni said. "Jalen and I's relationship is good. You just can judge it based off of what your personal interactions are. When you hear a report like that, you don't put much stock into it because, quite frankly, not everybody sees that. I'm so excited for him and I to get into our fourth year together."

The Eagles are hoping to return to the Super Bowl for the second time in the last three years, so it's important that Hurts and Sirianni are on the same page.

"It's as simple as if I made it happen, I can make it happen. And this team had made it happen before," Hurts said. "And there's no doubt we can make it happen again, but it takes what it takes, and it takes being together."
