The New York Jets will turn back the clock this season.

New York announced Monday that it will wear its Classic uniform for its Oct. 14 game against the division-rival Buffalo Bills. That high-profile showdown featuring Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen will be a Monday night contest at MetLife Stadium.

As Eric Allen of the team's official website explained, the Classic jersey pays homage both to the team's 1968 championship season when it defeated the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III and the uniform design from 1998-2018.

The white jersey and white pants is a nod to the Super Bowl III jersey, as are the number and letter fonts and the gray facemask.

Yet the helmet will have the same white shell and logo from the 1998-2018 era.

Allen noted it won't be the only special jersey the Jets wear during the upcoming season. They will also don their legacy black uniform and helmet combination as an alternate on Halloween when they host C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans during a Thursday night game.

Both special uniform games will be important for the Jets.

They were just 7-10 last season and missed the playoffs after Rodgers was lost for the year to an Achilles injury he suffered in Week 1. If they are going to make a jump and compete for an AFC East crown, they will have to play well against the Bills.

After all, Allen and Co. have won the division in each of the last four seasons and remain the gold standard heading into the 2024 campaign.

The head-to-head game against Houston could go a long way toward wild-card positioning or in a battle for home-field advantage in the AFC. Stroud was the Offensive Rookie of the Year last season while leading the Texans to the playoffs, and expectations are even higher now that the team has Stefon Diggs at wide receiver.

New York will attempt to hand both AFC contenders losses while wearing special uniforms this season.
