Xander Schauffele Jokes He 'Can't Wait to Drink out of' Claret Jug After British Open
After winning his second major championship of the year, Xander Schauffele had one thing on his mind.
The golfer wanted to take a sip out of the Claret Jug, the coveted trophy given to the winner of the British Open.
"I just can't wait to drink out of it," Schauffele said. "My dad's here with me, so I'm going to let him do the honor. Whatever he wants."
Schauffele also expressed how much winning the event meant to him.
"It means a lot. It's something all of us play for and it really is a dream come true to be holding this and it definitely hasn't sunk in yet," he said. "My brain is still grinding on this amazing property here trying to get through the holes. I can't wait to sit back and have a moment with this Claret Jug."
Schauffele had an impressive day at Royal Troon Golf Course in Scotland, carding a 6-under 65 on Sunday to finish 9-under par, two strokes ahead of Justin Rose and Billy Horschel. His Round 4 performance was his best at the open as he recorded six birdies and never hit over par.
The win marks his second of this year's tour as well as his second major win of his career. Schauffele won the PGA Championship in May and has had five other top-five finishes this year.
