Scottie Scheffler: British Open 3rd Round Had Hardest Conditions I've Ever Played

The conditions during the third round of the British Open have not been friendly to the field, and Scottie Scheffler is no exception.

The star said Saturday's rainy and windy conditions made Round 3 one of the most difficult days of golf he's ever played.

"I think that was probably the hardest nine holes that I'll ever play," Scheffler said, per CBS Sports' Kyle Porter. "I shouldn't say ever, but it's definitely the hardest that I've played to this point, I think."

Despite the weather, Scheffler has stayed near the top of the leaderboard as he's currently in eighth place, even with par. He trails the leader, Billy Horschel by four strokes after Horshel had a fantastic day to replace Shane Lowry, who led at the beginning of the day at seven-under-par.

Scheffler's main struggles came from around the hole as he's failed to capitalize on manageable putts. If he can correct his short game heading into the final round, he could make a comeback and win another major.

Scheffler has had an outstanding season on the 2024 PGA Tour, claiming six wins and earning a single-season record $27,696,858 in official purse money. He's already clinched one major win this season, winning the Masters in the spring, but he'll look to add another to his resume at The Open this weekend.
