Brandon Aiyuk Trade Rumors: 5 Teams Pursued 49ers WR Before Draft amid Contract Buzz

Zach BacharJul 19, 2024

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has several potential suitors that have already attempted to trade for him.

During a Friday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk revealed that there were "five teams" wiling to give Aiyuk the contract he desired before the 2024 NFL draft. However, the teams weren't able to work out a deal with San Francisco.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday that Aiyuk officially requested a trade from the organization after both sides weren't able to agree on a contract extension.

Aiyuk will have a base salary of $14.1 million in 2024 after San Francisco picked up his fifth-year option in 2023, then he'll hit free agency during the 2025 offseason.

Although the 49ers aren't willing to hand him a long-term extension, they also don't appear to be interested in moving him. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the team has "no intention" of trading Aiyuk ahead of training camp.

Niners general manager John Lynch likely wants to keep key contributors such as Aiyuk in order to attempt another deep playoff run, with the team coming off a narrow Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Aiyuk is one of San Francisco's top offensive weapons, hauling in 75 receptions for a career-high 1,342 yards in 2023. He also recorded seven touchdown catches.

Lynch and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that trade discussions were held during the draft, although a deal never ended up materializing (per ESPN's Nick Wagoner). San Francisco also used the No. 31 overall pick on former Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, leading to more speculation regarding Aiyuk's uncertain future.

The New England Patriots might have been one of the five teams that were willing to offer the 26-year-old an extension, as NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the Patriots attempted to acquire Aiyuk "again" over the "last couple of weeks" but were turned down.

Despite the former Arizona State standout's request to be moved, the 49ers don't seem to be entertaining trade discussions with opposing teams as training camp approaches.
