Steph Curry, Anthony Davis Delight Fans as USA Crushes Jokić, Serbia Before Olympics
Coming off a close call against Australia two days ago, Team USA looked much more comfortable in a 105-79 win over reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokić and Serbia in the second leg of its two-game showcase in Abu Dhabi.
Stephen Curry had his best game of the exhibition schedule. The Golden State Warriors star led all players with 24 points on 6-of-9 three-point shooting.
The biggest difference for the Americans on Wednesday was on defense, with Serbia having no answers against the duo of Anthony Davis and Bam Adebayo. Davis had six rebounds and six blocks in just 18 minutes.
Adebayo could be using this stint with Team USA to evolve into more of a stretch 5 for the Miami Heat. He had a huge impact on defense but also finished with 17 points and showed off his shooting touch.
This was the most complete game for the United States during this showcase leading up to the Olympics. The team started out slow against Canada before the defense locked it down in an 86-72 win on July 10.
Australia was able to erase a 24-point third-quarter deficit and get within four late in the game, but the U.S. held on for a 98-92 victory on Monday.
The U.S. looked like the better team against Serbia right from the tip. The Americans did have some turnover issues early with six giveaways in the first half, which has been a recurring theme, but they turned on the jets in the second half.
Team USA will now travel to London for games against South Sudan on Saturday and Germany on Monday. That will close out the warm-up schedule before the Olympics begin in Paris.
