British Open 2024: Latest Odds and Betting Tips for Golf's Top Contenders
Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele have been mentioned at the top of the list of potential major winners for all of 2024.
Scheffler won the Masters, Schauffele captured the PGA Championship and McIlroy was a few putts away from winning the U.S. Open.
The three golfers carry the lowest odds to win The Open Championship at Royal Troon.
McIlroy owns the best career numbers at The Open among the three, but both Scheffler and Schauffele have top-10 finishes on the links-style courses in their careers.
No one would be surprised if all three are in the mix for the Claret Jug on Sunday, and if that is the case, we could be in for an incredible finish to the men's golf major season.

Scottie Scheffler
2 of 4
Scheffler is coming off the rare underwhelming performance at his last major.
The two-time major winner landed in a tie for 41st at the U.S. Open for his worst-ever major finish.
That statistic shows you just how consistent Scheffler has been at golf's highest level since he played a full calendar of majors in 2021.
Scheffler's best Open finish was a tie for eighth in 2021. He tied for 21st and 23rd in his last two Open starts.
He does not have the best track record on the links, but we are talking about the top-ranked golfer in the world and he's capable of contending in any tournament.
Scheffler has not played since the Travelers Championship in late June, where he had four straight rounds of 65 or better.
Scheffler shot 68 or lower in five of his 12 major tournament rounds in 2024, and we should expect a better showing than what we saw at the U.S. Open. He may not win, but he should certainly be on the first two pages of the leaderboard.
Rory McIlroy
3 of 4
McIlroy feels like the safest bet of the top three favorites to contend for the Claret Jug.
The four-time major winner owns two straight top-10 Open finishes and has seven career top-10 finishes, including a tie for fifth at Royal Troon in 2016.
McIlroy is one of the few top contenders who had success at the course previously in his career.
He did not seem to be affected by his U.S. Open collapse in his return to the course at the Scottish Open last week, where he shot 14-under in a tie for fourth.
McIlroy is +105 to finish inside the top 10 and +210 to land inside the top five. Those two bets are worth consideration because of how consistent he has been in this specific tournament.
He also owns eight top-10 finishes in his last 11 major starts, all of which have been in eighth place or better.
Xander Schauffele
4 of 4
The Open Championship has been Schauffele's worst event among the four majors.
The 2024 PGA champion has a single top-10 finish, a tie for second in 2018, and he has not finished better than 15th place since then.
Schauffele has been far better at the U.S. Open, where he has seven top-10 finishes in eight starts.
He does not have the eye-popping set of high finishes, like McIlroy, but he has landed inside the top 10 at each of the season's three majors.
Schauffele could be a case at Royal Troon where overall form outweighs previous performances on the links-style courses.
He is +120 to land in the top 10 and +250 to finish inside the top five. The top 10 bet carries better value because two of his three top-10 major placings in 2024 have been seventh and eighth place.
