Aaron Donald: 'I Hated Tom Brady' for 3 Years After Rams' Super Bowl Loss to Patriots

Paul KasabianJul 16, 2024

Former Los Angeles Rams superstar defensive lineman Aaron Donald said that he hated Tom Brady after L.A.'s 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots five years ago in Super Bowl LIII.

"That broke my heart, I ain't gonna lie, Donald said (10-minute mark). "Losing that Super Bowl, I ain't gonna lie. I was down for like two months. I hated Tom Brady for like three years... I was mad!"

Donald then explained how that Super Bowl had a special meaning. He told his daughter the Rams would win, that he would bring her onto the field after the game and that she would play in the confetti.

After the loss, Donald said he looked into the stands, saw his daughter crying and felt that he had let her down and broken a promise.

Donald and the Rams' defense had an exceptional game, but the Rams' offense got shut down in the lowest-scoring Super Bowl of all time. Brady, who completed 21-of-35 passes for 262 yards and one interception, ended up winning his sixth of seven lifetime Super Bowls.

Three years later, Donald and the Rams found themselves back in the Super Bowl. This time, the Rams were victorious, 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals.

So Donald, a surefire future Pro Football Hall of Famer, finished his career with a Lombardi Trophy alongside 10 Pro Bowls and eight first-team All-Pro nods in a decade of pro football. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year hung up the cleats officially last March.
