Georgia OL Kelton Smith Jr. Retires from CFB for Medical Reasons
Georgia offensive lineman Kelton Smith Jr. is retiring from football due to an undisclosed medical condition, coach Kirby Smart announced Tuesday.
"This is never an easy transition for a player, and we vow to stick with Kelton during this period and provide him the support he needs," Smart said. "It is tough losing a person of Kelton's character, but we look forward to him staying a part of our program."
Smith redshirted last season after being a 4-star recruit in the 2023 class.
Smith will remain on scholarship at Georgia and stay with the football team in a non-playing capacity. He was expected to compete for playing time in training camp, boasting experience at guard and tackle at the high school level.
Smith was also a star in track-and-field in high school, finishing second in the state in shot put during his sophomore year.
Georgia did not announce what capacity with which Smith will remain on the team.
