Video: 'Simone Biles Rising' Teaser Trailer Released by Netflix Ahead of Olympics
On the eve of the premiere episode of Simone Biles Rising, Netflix has released a teaser trailer for the documentary series about the gymnastics superstar and her preparation for the 2024 Olympics.
The trailer features clips of Biles, with EGOT winner Viola Davis narrating an excerpt from the poem "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou.
Last month, Netflix announced a four-part documentary series about Biles that would trace her journey to and throughout the 2024 Olympics.
"We are all the authors of our own journeys, and I am in a place in my life where I'm comfortable with who I am and what I've been through as an athlete, but most of all, as a person," Biles said in a statement when the series was first announced. "Gymnastics is what I do but it's not who I am, and I'm excited for people to see another side of me outside of competition."
Biles withdrew from the team competition, individual all-around, vault, uneven bars and floor exercise at the 2020 Olympics to focus on her mental health. She was able to compete in the balance beam final, winning the bronze medal.
After a two-year hiatus, Biles returned to competition at the U.S. Classic in August 2023. The seven-time Olympic medalist qualified for the Paris Games by winning the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June.
Biles is the first American woman to qualify for three straight Olympic teams since Dominque Dawes in 1992, 1996 and 2000.
The first episode of Simone Biles Rising premieres on Netflix on Wednesday. The remaining three episodes don't have an official release date.
