Fantasy Alert: Kyle Pitts to Play WR, TE; Falcons OC Says 'Sky Is the Limit' in 2024

Scott PolacekJul 14, 2024

Fantasy football players are well aware of Kyle Pitts' ceiling and inconsistency, but the 2024 campaign could be when he becomes a star.

Especially since he will be playing wide receiver and tight end in a new offense.

"He's learning basically two different positions," Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said, per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There's some tight end and there's some receiver. So, he's got a lot on his plate. He's handled it really well. I'm just excited to see him continue to get more comfortable in the system.

"The sky is the limit for what kind of season that he can have."

Things will certainly look different in Atlanta this season after the NFC South team fired head coach Arthur Smith following three seasons.

Part of the issue was the inability to maximize the potential of young stars such as Pitts, Bijan Robinson and Drake London. It will be up to Robinson and new head coach Raheem Morris to create ways to do just that, and moving Pitts around as a tight end and wide receiver may accomplish the goal.

After all, the 6'6" speedster can be quite the matchup problem for opposing defenses given his overall combination of size, speed and athleticism.

Having the versatility to play multiple positions will help the offense match him up against linebackers without enough speed or defensive backs without enough size to keep him in check downfield.

It also could make Pitts quite the tight end weapon for fantasy football players.

It seemed like the University of Florida product was well on his way to becoming a fantasy football star with 1,026 receiving yards as a rookie in 2021. However, he had just 356 yards as injuries limited him to 10 games in his second year.

Pitts also posted an unspectacular 667 receiving yards last season and has never finished with more than three touchdown catches in a season throughout the early portion of his career.

Drafting him at this point is a high-risk, high-reward gamble for any fantasy football player. But at a tight end position that doesn't have as much depth as wide receiver, the reality that Atlanta's coaching staff is looking for various ways to maximize his abilities is an encouraging sign.
