Lakers Rumors: Greg St. Jean Joining JJ Redick's Coaching Staff; 2nd Stint with LAL
The Los Angeles Lakers continued to build JJ Redick's staff on Saturday.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that the Lakers are hiring Greg St. Jean as an assistant coach. He spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant for the Phoenix Suns.
The Athletic's Jovan Buha confirmed the news:
The Lakers will not be a major adjustment for St. Jean, as he served as an assistant coach and a player development coach for the franchise from 2019-2021. This included the team's 2019-20 championship season.
He also was with the Dallas Mavericks as an assistant from 2021-2023 and began his coaching career with the Sacramento Kings.
He has been a consistent presence on Frank Vogel-led staffs, but now takes on a new challenge by being on Redick's staff. Redick is notably entering his first coaching gig, but will draw on his 15-year NBA career and his work as an analyst for ESPN.
St. Jean joins a staff that has already hired Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks, and the experienced assistants will attempt to aid in Redick's career shift.
They take over a Lakers team that has LeBron James and Anthony Davis and is coming off of a 45-37 season. This would earn Los Angeles the seventh-seed and it would fall in the first-round to the Denver Nuggets.
