Raiders' Maxx Crosby 'Exhausting Every Single Resource' to Have Career Year in 2024

Adam WellsJul 3, 2024

Maxx Crosby is already one of the best defensive players in the NFL, but the Las Vegas Raiders star is looking to set a new standard for himself in 2024.

Speaking to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez, Crosby explained he's "exhausting every single resource" in order to have the best season of his career after fighting through injuries in 2023:

"I was damn near limited every single day, the whole season in practice, and things like that. And I had to learn to make an adjustment because I can't just go out there and run my knee into the ground. I had to be ready for Sunday.

"It made me take a step back so I could take three steps forward, and I feel like that's what this offseason was all about—my one goal is to be the best in the world, pound for pound, and I talk about it, I'm about it, I live it every single day and whatever street I've got to travel to get to where I want to go, I'm going to do that. So I'm exhausting every single resource I possibly have to have the best season of my career."

Crosby has been an iron man since entering the NFL in 2019. He has appeared in all 84 games, including the playoffs, over the past five seasons.

Since Week 9 of his rookie season, Crosby has made 76 consecutive starts. He dealt with a knee injury last season that had him on the injury report leading up to four games, including three straight from Weeks 12-15.

Crosby was listed as doubtful going into a Week 12 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. He wound up starting and recorded a sack, but he played the second-fewest total defensive snaps (49) and percentage of defensive snaps (82) in a game.

The 26-year-old played at least 90 percent of the defensive snaps in 15 games, including every snap 10 times. Last season marked the first time he was on the field for fewer than 90 percent of the snaps in multiple games since the 2022 campaign.

You would never know from Crosby's performance that anything was wrong with his body. He tied for the NFL lead with 23 tackles for loss, recorded a career-high 14.5 sacks and finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year award voting.

The Raiders did add help on the defensive line by signing Christian Wilkins in free agency to ease some of the burden on Crosby. They could form one of the best pass-rushing duos in the NFL next season.

If the Raiders are going to have a chance at competing for a playoff spot in the AFC, they will probably need Crosby to have the best season of his career. He's continued to find new ways to improve his game in each of the past five years, so don't put it past him hitting another level in 2024.
