Tatum will become the first player to exceed $70 million in a single season, a payday that is set to come in 2029-20. He will take home $54.1 million in the first year of the deal, 2025-26, and will have $469.4 million in career earnings when the contract expires after his age-31 season.

Fans took to social media to congratulate Tatum and praise the Celtics for locking down the superstar.

Tatum led the Celtics to their 18th NBA championship in 2023-24, the first of his career. He averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 74 games during the regular season and 25, 9.7 and 6.3 in 19 playoff games.

His contract comes after the Celtics had agreed to a four-year, $125.9 million extension with Derrick White. Boston is now paying significant salary to Tatum, White, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis and will be over the second apron.
