NFL Rumors: Steelers Have Seen a 'Motivated' Russell Wilson amid Justin Fields Battle

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is reportedly embracing the competition with Justin Fields for the starting job with his new team.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Steelers have seen "a motivated Wilson, who benefitted from the competition Fields was giving him" during the team's offseason program.

The Steelers signed Wilson to a one-year deal after his unceremonious release from the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason. They later acquired Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears, and he also has one year remaining on his rookie deal.

Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said earlier this month that Wilson was "in the pole position" for the starting job. However, he hasn't locked it up just yet.

Breer noted, "Through the spring, neither Wilson nor Justin Fields lit the world on fire in Pittsburgh." During training camp in July, he expects the Steelers to "keep pushing" Wilson to see if he solidifies his spot as the starter.

After a lackluster two years in Denver, Wilson will certainly be looking to prove his doubters wrong in 2024, so it can be expected that he will bring his best when training camp begins next month.
