Cameron Young Shoots 59 at 2024 Travelers Championship; 1st on PGA Tour Since 2020
Cameron Young had quite the Saturday at The Travelers Championship
The 27-year-old shot a 59 during the third round of the tournament, becoming the first golfer since Scottie Scheffler in 2020 to shoot under 60 in a PGA event.
After the round, Young told reporters he "didn't feel particularly" awesome prior to the historic feat:
Young becomes the 13th golfer in PGA history to break 60 in a round. He is currently tied with Tom Kim for first place at 13-under.
He becomes the 12th golfer to ever shoot a 59, while Jim Furyk still stands alone as the only person to shoot a 58 in a round. Furyk's round also came at the Traveler's Championship during the 2016 tournament. Young's round makes TPC River Highlands one of just two PGA courses to have had players break 60 during a round.
Young shot a 28 on the front nine and a 31 on the back nine. He hit eagles on the third and 15th holes and birdied seven holes.
While he finished the round in a tie for first, Kim and several other golfers towards the top of the leaderboard have yet to tee off in the third round so young will likely need to gain some more ground during the final round in order to win his first PGA event.
