Jayson Tatum: 'Nobody's Relaxed, Nobody's Satisfied' After Celtics' 3-0 Lead vs. Mavs
The Boston Celtics have a 3-0 lead over the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals, but that doesn't mean complacency is about to set in for the Eastern Conference champions.
"We're not necessarily saying, like, 'one more' or anything like that," Jayson Tatum told reporters following his team's 106-99 win in Wednesday's Game 3 (30-second mark). "We're just saying, 'however long it takes.' Nobody's relaxed, nobody's satisfied."
It seemed like the Celtics were going to cruise to another victory when they jumped out to a 21-point lead early in the fourth quarter with Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way.
However, some of that complacency may have set in, as the Mavericks came storming back and cut the lead to as little as one. Dallas may have completed the comeback if Luka Dončić didn't foul out with just over four minutes remaining, but Boston closed the door on the home team down the stretch.
Tatum was more of a scoring threat than he was in the first two games and finished with 31 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Brown stuffed the stat sheet with 30 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
It is notable the five-time All-Star said that "nobody's relaxed" since that seemed to be somewhat of the issue during the fourth quarter of Wednesday's game. Boston took its foot off the proverbial gas and almost allowed a Dallas comeback as a result.
If the Celtics avoid a larger letdown in the overall series, they will take home their first championship since 2008.
