Video: Raiders' Davante Adams Explains Giving Brock Bowers His 'BM' Nickname

Timothy RappJun 12, 2024

Davante Adams has graced Las Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers with a new nickname: BM, or "Business Man."

"He don't care about nothing else other than just locking in on football," Adams told reporters Wednesday. "I can see it in his eyes, I try to tell a joke and get him to laugh—talking to the rookies, did a little panel with them a week ago—and he was sitting there stone-faced. Didn't laugh at a thing I said. So I was like, this is 'BM' right here. I told him that yesterday, I gave him his nickname. I see what he's about, I've seen the tape. He's a big, strong dude and he's focused and driven, so sky's the limit for him."

The Raiders—with a pretty huge need at quarterback—surprised just about everyone by selecting Bowers with the No. 13 overall selection. There's no doubt that Bowers is a huge talent and has Pro Bowl upside at the position, but the Raiders already had 2023 second-round pick, Michael Mayer, at the position.

So expect to see a lot of "12" personnel in Las Vegas this season.

"When you look at our guys, both of them can do a lot of things for you," new head coach Antonio Pierce told reporters in May. "You can line them up... in the slot, at the No. 1 wide receiver, you can put them in line, you can put them in pairs. But more importantly, who's matching up on the other side against us? Is it a linebacker? Is it a safety? Is it a nickel? Is it a corner?"

With Bowers, the Raiders will be hoping to hunt mismatches. And Adams expects the rookie to be all business in his role.
