Bronny James Could Have More NBA Draft Workouts After Lakers, Suns Visits, Agent Says

Joseph ZuckerJun 9, 2024

Draft prospect Bronny James is weighing "a few more" invitations to team workouts, according to agent Rich Paul.

Paul told NBA insider Marc Stein the 6'1" guard hasn't closed the door on additional workouts after meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported on May 28 that at least 10 teams had reached out to James about in-person visits. However, he was choosing to be very selective.

It's not uncommon for incoming draftees to decline individual invitations, but it's typically reserved for those who have a very limited draft range. James, on the other hand, is widely considered to be a second-round talent.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman projected the 19-year-old to go 55th overall to the Lakers, where he'd potentially team up with dad LeBron James.

"Rival teams sound uncertain about Bronny James' chances of getting drafted, though the Los Angeles Lakers remain the popular guess as to his most likely destination," Wasserman wrote.

"If he's still on the board deep into the second round, L.A.'s front office could feel pressure to select him, considering it's essentially a risk-free pick that late, and passing at No. 55 would signal to LeBron how little the team thinks of Bronny."

Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus reported Thursday that L.A. is "widely expected to draft Bronny either with one of their own two picks (Nos. 17 or 55) or by trading up in the second round." Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Friday the Lakers are "not considering" him with their first-round pick.

Plenty of fans will try to read something into James working out for more teams if it happens. Maybe the Lakers are wavering on their desire to unite him with his dad in the NBA. Maybe Bronny himself is cooling on the idea. Perhaps the odds are increasing of LeBron leaving the West Coast behind, so a team-up would happen elsewhere.

Whatever happens, we're going to find out in a little less than three weeks.
