Fyre, Dawn Win WWE Women's Tag Titles from Belair, Cargill at Clash at the Castle
Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn defeated the teams of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill and Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark in a Triple Threat tag team match at Clash at the Castle on Saturday to win the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships.
Dawn pinned Baszler, setting off a raucous celebration, as Fyre and Dawn became tag team champions for the first time in their home country of Scotland:
Given that they didn't factor into the decision, Belair and Cargill were left shocked by the result.
After beating The Kabuki Warriors for the women's tag team titles at Backlash, Belair and Cargill established their dominance within the women's tag team division, but they also became the target of the other tag teams.
Their first televised title defense was a successful one against Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell on the King and Queen of the Ring Kickoff Show, which happened just days after new No. 1 contenders were determined.
Baszler and Stark won a Fatal 4-Way tag team match on an episode of Raw, beating Kayden Carter and Katana Chance, Dakota Kai and Kairi Sane, and Maxxine Dupri and Ivy Nile to earn a future title shot.
Their opportunity came on the June 3 episode of Raw, but there was no definitive outcome since Fyre and Dawn interfered, resulting in a disqualification.
Bianca and Jade had another match against Candice and Indi on the ensuing episode of SmackDown, and after the champs won, Baszler, Stark, Fyre and Dawn all attacked them, solidifying the title bout for Clash at the Castle.
While Belair and Cargill were the clear favorites, the Triple Threat aspect of the match meant they could lose the titles without factoring into the decision.
They also had to go up against two hungry teams that had never won the tag team titles together before, although Baszler was a three-time tag champ with other partners.
Meanwhile, Fyre and Dawn have been teaming together for the past couple of years, and they had the added benefit of competing in their home country of Scotland.
The chaos that comes along with Triple Threat tag team matches worked in favor of Fyre and Dawn, as they pulled off the shocking victory to end the title reign of Belair and Cargill, although a rematch figures to be on the horizon.
