Dak Prescott: It's 'the F--king Best' Ezekiel Elliott Is Back in Cowboys Locker Room

Scott PolacekJun 5, 2024

It's safe to say Dak Prescott is excited to be teammates with Ezekiel Elliott again heading into the 2024 campaign.

"The f--king best," Prescott told reporters Wednesday when asked how it has been with the running back returning to the Dallas Cowboys locker room.

Elliott (No. 4 overall) and Prescott (fourth round) entered the NFL in the same 2016 NFL draft and played their first seven seasons together for the Cowboys. However, the former was a member of the New England Patriots last season and returned to Dallas as a free agent this offseason.

There was a time when the combination was unstoppable.

Prescott won Offensive Rookie of the Year, was a two-time Pro Bowler and threw for as many as 4,902 yards in one year during his first four seasons. In that same span, Elliott was a three-time Pro Bowler who led the NFL in rushing yards in two different seasons.

However, the wear and tear started to get to Elliott, and he ran for what was then a career-worst 3.8 yards per carry in his most recent season with the Cowboys in 2022. He ran for just 3.5 yards per carry in his one season in New England.

Prescott was limited to five games in 2020 because of injuries and led the league with 15 interceptions in 2022, although he bounced back last year by leading the NFL in passing touchdowns with 36.

Perhaps reuniting with Prescott and seeing fewer than the 268.7 carries per season he averaged in his first seven years in Dallas will help Elliott rediscover some of his old form.

If nothing else, his longtime friend is happy to be sharing the same backfield.
