Shocking Trade Ideas Patriots Should Pursue Before 2024 Season
The New England Patriots have one of the most fascinating quarterback trade targets on their 2024 roster.
Jacoby Brissett was brought in to the bridge quarterback to rookie Drake Maye.
Brissett could have an extended spell in New England, or he could be the backup by the time Week 1 rolls around.
If the latter scenario occurs, the Patriots might explore trades for Brissett depending on what happens elsewhere in the league at quarterback.
Trades are also possible for some of the veteran wide receivers on the roster. The Patriots drafted Ja'Lynn Polk to partner with Demario Douglas. That could make Kendrick Bourne or JuJu Smith-Schuster surplus pass-catchers and potential trade targets.
Trade Jacoby Brissett to Giants

New England's best-case scenario is for Maye to be ready for Week 1.
If that happens, the Patriots could choose to keep Brissett as the backup to help Maye transition to the starting role, or deal him to a team with a larger quarterback need.
The New York Giants do not seem to be going anywhere with Daniel Jones in charge of the offense.
Trading for a veteran, like Brissett, to potentially replace Jones would be a drastic move, but it does not seem crazy when you see that Drew Lock is the Giants' backup.
New York may value Brissett more, and if a starting role comes with it, the Patriots may send off the veteran quarterback before Week 1.
New England would have to feel comfortable with Bailey Zappe as Maye's backup for the deal to happen, but it could also be pushed through if Brissett wants playing time.
Proposed Trade: Patriots trade Jacoby Brissett to Giants for 2025 third-round pick and 2025 seventh-round pick
Deal Jacoby Brissett to Seahawks
2 of 3
The Patriots probably will not trade Brissett within the AFC for competitive purposes.
The Seattle Seahawks have Geno Smith and Sam Howell in place at quarterback, but what if Smith takes a step back and Howell does not have what it takes to be a starter again.
Those are two massive what-ifs that have to go wrong for the Seahawks to look to the quarterback market.
Seattle wants to win in Mike Macdonald's first season as head coach, and if neither quarterback is working, it will look to the trade market.
A deal with Seattle may not make sense in the short term because the Seahawks play the Patriots in Week 2, but in terms of fit for Brissett, it may be one of the few NFC teams that has trouble with its quarterback performance.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Sent to Dallas

Smith-Schuster's spot on the depth chart is under threat.
Douglas and Polk would ideally be the Patriots' one-two punch in 2024 and beyond.
That would leave Smith-Schuster in the No. 3 role at best going into the regular season.
Free-agent signing K.J. Osborn thrived in a supporting role with the Minnesota Vikings and could fill that spot behind Douglas and Polk.
The Dallas Cowboys could come calling for Smith-Schuster if he is not promised the playing time he wants.
Dallas did little to improve its offense around Dak Prescott this offseason and it will probably be in the market for veteran pass-catchers throughout the summer.
The Patriots could try to get a Day 2 pick out of the Cowboys to get Smith-Schuster more playing time elsewhere.
