NCAA Lacrosse Championship 2024: Notre Dame Dominates Maryland for 2nd Straight Title
Notre Dame remains at the top of the collegiate lacrosse world.
The Fighting Irish used a balanced scoring attack and efficient defensive play to win its second consecutive NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse National Championship.
It was a battle between the two most recent national champions, as the Maryland Terrapins had won it all in 2022.
The first quarter was tight, with Notre Dame leading 5-3 at it's conclusion. The second quarter, however, is where the Fighting Irish took control.
Notre Dame outscored Maryland 5-1 in that frame, taking a 10-4 lead into halftime. It continued that pace in the next quarter, outscoring Maryland 4-1 to take a 14-5 lead into the final quarter.
The Fighting Irish added one more in the fourth quarter and opted to control possession for much of that final quarter in the effort to close out the game.
Chris Kavanagh led Notre Dame with five goals, while his brother Pat led the team with six assists. Jake Taylor added two goals in the winning effort, while Eric Dobson, Jordan Faison, Devon McLane, Fisher Finley, Will Angrick, Reilly Gray, Max Busenkell and Jalen Seymour added the other goals.
Fighting Irish goaltender Liam Enteman was a huge key to the victory as well, turning away 16 Terrapin shots.
