South Carolina WR Nyck Harbor Qualifies for 2024 NCAA Track Nationals in 100M, 200M

South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor qualified for the NCAA track and field championships during the East regionals over the weekend.

The freshman posted times of 10.11 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 20.20 seconds in the 200 meters. Both times were personal bests, and his finishes of 10th and eighth respectively were enough for qualification.

Harbor's performance in the 200 also earned him a spot at the 2024 U.S. Olympic team trials because it fell under the 20.30 threshold. The NCAA East regional is among the events recognized on the World Athletics calendar that can count toward the trials.

Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer told reporters earlier this month that "it would be really, really cool" if Harbor were to make the trip to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The Washington, D.C., native was the No. 19 overall player and top-ranked athlete in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2023 class. In his first year at South Carolina, he caught 12 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown.

The U.S. Olympic team trials get underway on June 21 in Eugene, Oregon, with the first round of the men's 200 meters scheduled for June 27.

Were he to qualify for the Summer Olympics, Harbor would fall behind the curve a bit in terms of his preparations for the upcoming football season. The 2024 Summer Games run through Aug. 11, while South Carolina plays Old Dominion in its opener on Aug. 31.

The opportunity to compete on the world stage would be too good to pass up, though.
