ACC Baseball Championship 2024: Duke Routs FSU for Title Behind Ben Miller's 2 HRs
Charlotte, North Carolina continues to be nice to the Duke baseball team.
Three years after sweeping the competition at the 2021 ACC Championship, the 2024 Blue Devils squad accomplished the same feat, winning the tournament with a 16-4 victory over Florida State in the championship game.
The Seminoles actually jumped out to the first lead of the game, but it did not take long for the Blue Devil bats to get hot.
Kyle Johnson and A.J. Gracia provided clutch hits in the top of the second to give Duke a 5-2 lead.
Duke would add on in the fourth inning when Ben Miller smoked a grand slam to extend the lead to 9-2.
The Seminoles got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, but the Duke offense wasn't slowing down any time soon.
Chase Krewson drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the sixth to make it 10-2, and then Devin Obee smashed the second Blue Devil grand slam moments later.
Miller would add a second home run in the top of the seventh, giving him his fifth-and-sixth RBIs on the day.
The excellence wasn't exclusive to the bats, however, as Krewson flashed some arm talent in the eighth inning to keep the game at 16-4.
The win improved the Blue Devils to 39-18 on the season and gave the program its second ACC Championship. Duke also makes a case to earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, although that will ultimately be up to the selection committee.
Duke is looking to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 1961 and eventually pursue the first national championship in program history.
The Blue Devils, Seminoles and the remainder of the ACC will find out their fates come tournament time in short order.
The NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament field will be revealed Monday at noon E.T. on ESPN.
