Sha'Carri Richardson won the first 100-meter race of her Olympic year on Saturday, finishing in first place at the Prefontaine Classic.

Richardson recorded a time of 10.83 seconds during her victory, emerging from a competitive field that included Julien Alfred, Dina Asher Smith, Ta Lou, and two-time reigning Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah.

"I felt great about my race," Richardson said afterwards, via NBC Sports. "It's my [100-meter season] opener, I would not be human to say that I wasn't nervous. As my coach says, use that nervousness as motivation."

The reigning world champion started off strong but lagged just behind Alfred in the early stages before eventually picking up her pace and moving into the lead.

The 24-year-old previously took home the gold medal in the 100m race at the 2023 World Athletics Championships before struggling a bit in a pair of 200m races prior to Saturday's victory.

In the 200m dash at the Shanghai Diamond League, Richardson finished in third place with a 23.11 time. The finish came after she previously secured second place in her 2024 200m season debut.

Richardson told reporters after her win on Saturday that she would focus on "grinding, focusing, growing and getting ready for Trials" (per Olympics.com).

U.S. Olympic Trials are set to take place at Hayward Field in Oregon, starting on June 21.
