Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest Title Match Set for WWE Clash at the Castle 2024
During Saturday's King and Queen of the Ring premium live event, WWE announced that Damian Priest will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle on June 15.
The announcement came after Priest agreed to give McIntyre a future title shot during a recent episode of Raw.
McIntyre beat Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship in the opening match of Night 2 of WrestleMania 40 in April, but his title reign was short-lived, as CM Punk jumped up from the announce table to attack him.
When it became clear that The Scottish Warrior was compromised, Priest ran down with his Money in the Bank contract and successfully cashed it in to become world champion for the first time.
It was another instance of heartbreak for McIntyre, whose two previous world title wins occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when no fans were in attendance.
Also, at the first Clash at the Castle premium live event in Wales in 2022, McIntyre fell short in a WWE Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns due to interference from Solo Sikoa.
This time around, Clash at the Castle will emanate from the OVO Hydro in McIntyre's home country of Scotland, making the stakes even more significant.
Gunther beat Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finals on Saturday, earning himself a world title match at SummerSlam. That means the winner at Clash at the Castle could potentially be Gunther's SummerSlam opponent.
At the same time, McIntyre is embroiled in a heated rivalry with CM Punk, so Punk could end up being his opponent regardless of the result of his match against Priest at Clash at the Castle.
