Bengals' Joe Burrow Isn't on 'Pitch Counter' amid Injury Rehab, OC Dan Pitcher Says

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is still working his way back to full strength after undergoing wrist surgery in November, but his throwing program during organized team activities isn't restrictive.

Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher told reporters the Bengals aren't using a "pitch counter" to monitor Burrow's workload.

"We designed the whole thing to stay within the constraints of where the medical people think he should be and where he wants to be right now," Pitcher said. "Nobody is sitting there with a special pitch counter. But we've been smart how we put it together."

Burrow suffered a torn Scapholunate ligament in his right wrist during the Bengals' loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11. He underwent season-ending surgery on Nov. 27.

The rehab timeline wasn't specified in the announcement that Burrow's surgery was successful. Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported in December the procedure typically comes with a four-to-sixth month recovery timeline.

Burrow told ESPN's Ben Baby in March that he was expecting to be fully cleared by mid-May.

"I think middle of May is when I am expecting to kind of be cleared for full contact and everything," Burrow said. "Over the next month [to] month and a half, we'll kind of decide all those things."

The Bengals haven't announced if Burrow has been fully cleared. He has been throwing throughout the voluntary portion of the team's offseason workout program.

The Bengals will hold organized team activities from May 28-30. They will be off for two weeks before reporting back for mandatory minicamp between June 11-13.

That will wrap up the offseason activities for the Bengals before training camp opens in July.

Burrow was limited early in the 2023 season due to a calf injury suffered in training camp. He finished the year with 2,309 yards, 15 touchdowns, six interceptions in 10 games.

The Bengals finished the season 9-8, missing the playoffs for the first time since Burrow's rookie year in 2020. They will open the preseason schedule on Aug. 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Paycor Stadium.
