Bronny James Rumors: Suns to Hold Private Workout for LeBron's Son amid Lakers Buzz

As the Phoenix Suns look for ways to retool their roster after a disappointing first-round playoff loss, they are doing their due diligence on Bronny James leading up to the 2024 NBA draft.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, James has agreed to a private workout with the Suns as he is "among several players" they are considering with the No. 22 overall pick.

Charania, Jovan Buha and Sam Amick previously reported the Los Angeles Lakers are another team that is "open to the prospect" of drafting James.

B/R's Jonathan Wasserman didn't have James included in his most recent mock draft that was released on Tuesday.

In a follow-up story to the mock about things that changed from the NBA scouting combine, Wasserman noted the feeling among scouts is the one team that might draft James is the Lakers with their second-round pick (No. 55 overall):

"James is going to get plenty of workouts from other teams, but it's worth noting that teams can work out roughly 100 players before the draft. They do this for due diligence, scouting for the future and creating/maintaining relationships with players and agents. James getting workouts from other teams shouldn't be overly newsworthy.

"Of course, all it takes is one team to really believe that James' shooting, passing IQ and defense can translate to something useful. Most scouts Bleacher Report has spoken with still sound hesitant to buy in, however."

A lot of attention is going to be paid to the Lakers because of the father-son connection with LeBron James.

Even though LeBron previously said he wants to play with his son, he has recently changed his stance to allow Bronny the opportunity to carve out his own path.

"I haven't given it much thought lately, obviously I thought about it in the past," LeBron told reporters at his end-of-season press conference when asked about the possibility of playing with Bronny. "The end of the day, the kid has to do what he wants to do. I don't even want to say kid no more, the young man will decide what he wants to do and how he wants his career to go."

The Suns are in a tricky spot this offseason because of how expensive their roster for 2024-25 is already. They have $205.9 million in salary commitments plus a $104.6 million tax bill.

Phoenix general manager James Jones has already said definitively that Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal won't be traded this summer.

If that is the case, the Suns' only avenues to help their roster are with contracts for the veteran minimum in free agency and the draft. They lost their second-round pick this year due to tampering violations last offseason.

The No. 22 pick is the only selection Phoenix has in the 2024 draft. Using that selection on James would seem rich based on his current draft stock, but the lack of elite talent in this class could push him up boards as the process goes along.
